Yarra Trams (operated by Keolis Downer, the largest private multi-modal transport operator in Australia), took over the running of the Melbourne tram network on 30 November 2009, and have improved safety, delivered record passenger satisfaction, and maintained punctuality during a period of unprecedented growth across Melbourne.
The tram network’s reach, across more than 250 km of tracks across Melbourne’s inner-city and suburbs, makes it the world’s largest urban tram network.
Saferoads were engaged by contractor, Fulton Hogan, to provide a safety bollard solution for the CBD super-stops that not only physically protected pedestrians in and around tram stops located in the middle of busy CBD thoroughfares but were able to be installed in relatively confined spaces and were physically and visually unobtrusive.Saferoads OmniStop Ultra Bollards were chosen due to being independently crash tested with proven reliability.
